LUNENBURG -- Col. Donald Marcelo Moreau, U.S. Army Retired, 87 years old, of Lunenburg, died Monday, March 20, 2017 in HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital. He was born August 22,1929 in Somerville, MA. to Andre "Sam" and Yolanda "Clare" (Raparverona) Moreau. Siblings: Leon Moreau - deceased, Andre Moreau - deceased, and Paul Moreau, currently residing in Malden, MA.

Donald Marcelo Moreau's long and inspiring working life began early when he was employed as a teenager at a local deli and at Harry Herson's bicycle repair shop, two jobs working for two men who taught him much about responsibility, compassion, and fairness in the workplace that he carried with him through the leadership roles he played in his varied careers.

He joined the Army in 1950 after graduating from Somerville High School. Soon after his enlistment, he was asked to attend Officer's Candidate School where he excelled and eventually began his tenure with the Army Security Agency (ASA) based at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, in the field of cryptology. During his 29 years in the service he was assigned to a variety of posts including Shemya, Alaska, two tours in Japan, the second as the ASA commander at Camp Drake, to Vietnam where he worked for Military Intelligence, to Augsburg, Germany as again, the ASA commander, several Army bases throughout the US, and finally back to Ft. Devens where he served as the Deputy Commander of the ASA Intelligence School Detachment until his retirement in 1979. During his service to our country, he achieved his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. 

After retirement from military service, our parents moved to Florida where my dad worked for five years at PRC, a contractor for NASA, as an engineer in the payload section during the maiden voyages of the Space Shuttle's Columbia and Challenger.

Returning to Boston in 1984, at the age of fifty-five, he fulfilled a lifelong dream to become a lawyer and attended the New England School of Law, graduating in 1987. He and our mother returned to Florida and for several years he practiced law at the firm, Mario, Morasco, and Moreau. Him and his wife returned to live in Fitchburg where our father opened a small family law practice.

In 1951, our he married, Beverly Lucille Binette. They were married for 64 years, until our Beverly's passing n 2014. Together they had three daughters: Gail Beauregard, married to James Beauregard and living in Leominster, MA; Donna Moreau who lives in Johannesburg, South Africa; and Lynn Moreau, currently residing in Lunenburg, MA. His three grandchildren are Keith Beauregard, living in California with his wife and daughter, Mathew Moreau Cupp, living in Fitchburg, and Kara Crovo, living in Saugus, MA with her husband and daughter. Two great-grandbabies, Demi Beauregard and Ellie Crovo, were lucky enough to have met their great-grandfather before his passing.

His lifelong passions included being an avid motorcycle enthusiast, a model airplane builder and flyer, a golfer, a builder of all things with wood, a divisor of games of logic, and a diligent reader.
